The Armenian Studies Program, as part of its continuing NIS College and University Partnership Program with Yerevan State University’s Faculty of Economics, contributed $20,000 in computer equipment to establish a 2nd computer lab. The computer equipment arrived in Yerevan in late September and were ready to be used by students and faculty by the beginning of October.
The nine computers and three lap-top computers will be utilized by students, who often do not have convenient access to computers. Funding for the lab was provide by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State.
The NIS grant has also assisted in establishing internet connections for the Faculty of Economics, essential for research and for communications. The NIS project is in its third year of cooperation between the two institutions, which provides for training for faculty and students of the Faculty of Economics.
The UAF has provided free transportation for the computers and equipment. Since its inception in 1989, the UAF has sent $345 million of humanitarian assistance to Armenia on board 120 airlifts and 866 sea containers.
The UAF is the collective effort of the Armenian Assembly of America, the Armenian General Benevolent Union, the Armenian Missionary Association of America, the Armenian Relief Society, the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, the Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America and the Lincy Foundation.
