Mr. John Stephens, a major benefactor of the Armenian Studies Program, died on April 19 in Fresno.

Earlier this year, Mr. Stephens had made a donation of $50,000 to the Armenian Studies Program. Mr. Stephens was close to the Program over the years, attending many of the lectures and other events, which he enjoyed immensely.

Mr. Stephens was a long-time grape grower in the Kerman area. His generous contributions to the Armenian Church led him to fund the building of two new churches in Armenia. His lifetime dream was fulfilled when he visited Armenia last summer and met with His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians. He visited the major landmarks in the country and enjoyed his trip tremendously.

Mr. Stephens was a major benefactor to St. Paul Armenian Church, the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America, and to Holy Etchmiadzin. He often would comment that his two greatest commitments were to the Church and to education.

On March 24, Mr. Stephens was honored and recognized for his support at the Armenian Studies Program Annual Banquet. His kind spirit will be missed.
