The Armenian Students Organization (ASO) held its first meeting of the Fall semester on Thursday, September 3, when election of officers took place. The following were elected: Jordan Mazmazian (President), Emily Sahakian (Vice President), Matthew Krikorian (Treasurer), Ariana Sargsyan (Secretary), and Sylvie Khatchikian (Public Relations).

Jordan Mazmazian
President
Last year, Jordan served as treasurer and stated she loved being a part of the club and “enjoyed meeting new Armenians and making new friends.” Mazmazian ran for President because she wanted to plan exciting events for all members and “work alongside her friends to promote Armenian culture.” She is especially looking forward to planning an ASO Prom this year, as it has been a few years since ASO last held one. Jordan says it will be one of the last events for the school year and she hopes members will attend to feel more connected to their Armenian community. When Jordan isn’t busy with school, she loves to watch Romcoms with her mom and sister!

Emily Sahakian
Vice President
Emily was also a part of the executive last year as ASO Secretary. Since she had so much fun, she knew she wanted to be on the executive again this year. An event she is looking forward to is the cooking night because ASO has never planned one before. She believes it will be a great opportunity for students to learn how to make traditional Armenian foods. This year, Emily hopes to bring more Armenian-centered events where students can learn about different aspects of Armenian culture. When Emily isn’t busy with school or ASO, she enjoys baking desserts and watching a good TV show.

Matthew Krikorian
Treasurer
Matthew wanted to be part of the ASO Executive this year because he wanted to “connect more with the Armenian com-munity at Fresno State.” He is especially looking forward to the Halloween Social coming up on Friday, October 23. Matthew says the executive officers have put a lot of time into planning the event and he is excited to see everyone enjoy it. Since this is not Matthew’s first time serving as treasurer for an organization, he hopes to bring his previous experience to ASO and help make it a successful year. Outside of school, Matthew enjoys keeping up with whatever sport is in season. He spends his free time watching and playing basketball and football with his friends.

Ariana Sargsyan
Secretary
Ariana wanted to be part of the ASO executive because she wanted to be more involved in the Armenian community at Fresno State. She also thought it would be a lot of fun to plan events that bring everyone together. An activity she is looking forward to is a cooking night, where members will learn to make traditional Armenian dishes. She is also looking forward to planning a dance or two this upcoming year for “fun celebrations at the end of the semester.” This year, Ariana hopes to bring new events to ASO that the organization has not done in the past, while also incorporating more Armenian culture into their events. When Ariana isn’t busy with school or ASO, she enjoys reading, hiking, baking, and training in karate.

Sylvie Khatchikian
Public Relations
Sylvie wanted to be part of the ASO Executive because she wants to “bring people together and create lifelong memories for Armenian students at Fresno State.” Sylvie stated that she wants ASO to be a place for everyone to be connected and be proud of their culture. She also hopes to bring “happiness, positivity, peace, and growth to ASO this year.” She mentioned that college can be stressful, so she wants ASO events to give students a chance to have fun, relax, make memories, and enjoy spending time together. In her free time she enjoys singing, playing the guitar or piano, and occasionally going ice skating.
