Staff Report

If you look along the Fresno State Men’s Basketball bench you will find another Armenian alongside Jerry and Danny Tarkanian helping out the Bulldogs.

Hovig Torigian, a Kinesiology major, is working his first season as a team manager for the Bulldogs. In his aspirations to become a coach himself, Torigian says, “This experience is an excellent opportunity to learn the dynamics of the game from one of the best.”

Torigian is involved with game-day and practice preparations, playing in practice drills and working one-on-one with the players. “At first it is kind of strange to go from cheering as a fan, to sitting up close along the bench, talking with, hanging out and working with the players, but now I’m starting to grasp the game of basketball from a coaching aspect,” Torigian said.

“I get exposed to what it takes to run a team, the intricate details involved in breaking down game footage and the emotional ups and downs that go with a season.” Although a lot of grunt work is involved, Torigian says he is having a lot of fun and enjoys working as a team manager for the Bulldogs.

Off the court, Torigian is busy with his classes, studying to get an Armenian Studies minor as well as his degree in Kinesiology. He is also active in the Armenian Students Organization. The Hye Sharzhoom wishes Hovig Torigian continued success in his hard work.
