On Saturday, January 14, 2017, Dr. Sergio La Porta served as the “Honorary Coach” for the Fresno State Bulldogs Men’s Basketball team against the Boise State Broncos. In an exciting game, the Bulldogs defeated the Broncos 89-80, completely dominating the first half of the match-up. The game was sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities and Dr. La Porta greeted the crowd in the second half.

Seated courtside, Dr. La Porta brought his son Zaven, aged 9, to the game and said that it was an amazing experience for both of them, “We had never felt the excitement of a game like we did this evening, sitting there behind the net.” Prior to the game, Dr. La Porta and his son were also able to visit the Bulldogs locker-room in order to listen to the pre-game pep talk by Coach Terry.

Dr. La Porta joked after the game that he was going to retire from coaching, proud of his undefeated record.
